Skills: Piloting and Wields the Green Power Ring

Hal Jordan followed in the footsteps of his father, Martin "The Flying Martini" Jordan as a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft. Jordan soon fell in love with his boss, Carol Ferris. Soon after, the Green Lantern known as Abin Sur crash landed on Earth with mortal wounds. Sur commanded his green power ring to seek out a man honest and fearless enough to succeed him. The ring found two candidates, Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan. Since Hal Jordan was closer in proximity, he was chosen. Sur offered parting words and informed him that the Guardians would send for him soon. In preparation, Jordan took a week long vacation.

While testing his new powers above Coast City, he encountered Kilowog, Tomar Re, Boodikka, and Sinestro. While Kilowog wanted to strip Jordan of the ring, Sinestro explained the situation and convinced Jordan to accompany them back to Oa. Although he was willing to serve as a Green Lantern, the Guardians and Corps were skeptical. Earth doesn't have the best reputation and was long regarded as a backwater, savage civilization. Sinestro offered to take Jordan as his apprentice and submit an evaluation.

Jordan's first mission was to accompany Sinestro to Cadmendoh and arrest Abin Sur's killer, Cuch. He opposed Sinestro's methods and destroyed Labella's moon ball during an interrogation. The duo was interrupted by the return of Cuch and pursued him. Jordan managed to apprehend Cuch alone. Boodikka attempted to comfort Jordan's uneasiness among the Corps and informed him more about its history. In reality, she was reading his mind and trying to conclude if he was a worthy candidate for Sinestro's new universal order.

Jordan and several Lanterns raced to the Kadian Space Terminal to capture Kanjar Ro before he could weaponize the Yellow Element. While watching the outer terminal, Jordan noticed several of Ro's men cloaked with their faders. He confronted them and led the others to Ro. During a chase in hyperspace, Jordan powered ahead of the others and entered the stolen ship alone. After killing Ro's second in command, he tried to capture the warlord but was knocked unconscious. Sinestro took advantage of the situation to kill Ro, implicate Jordan, and stole Ro's Energi-Rod to locate the Yellow Element himself. As a result, Jordan was ordered to turn over his ring to Kilowog and was to be escorted back to Earth.

He was suspicious of Sinestro's motives and revealed his thoughts to Boodikka and Kilowog. The trio raced to the morgue and discovered Sinestro with Ro's corpse. Boodikka revealed her true affiliation and knocked Kilowog aside. While Sinestro went ahead to Qward, she was tasked with killing Jordan. Without a ring, he resorted to fooling Boodikka into shooting the Energi-Rod. In the blast, she was killed. However, the scene further implicated Jordan as Arisia and Tomar Re appeared. It was too late. Sinestro returned with a yellow power ring and battery. Amid the rubble, Jordan found a ring with a Guardian's help and tried in vain to revive the Green Element. After punching through the yellow radiation, he placed the ring into the element and was engulfed in its power.

Jordan managed to smash two celestial bodies into the Yellow Battery and destroyed it and overpowered Sinestro with a decisive build up of energy. Kilowog saved Jordan as he fell towards the planet powerless. Some time later, the Guardians held a ceremony to mourn the slain Lanterns and to celebrate a new beginning. They requested Jordan to lead everyone in the pledge of the Green Lantern Oath. In no time, Jordan hurried off back to Earth to his other job.
