Sinestro

Back to Villains Main > Sinestro

Real Identity: Sinestro
Affiliation(s): Green Lantern Corps
Skills: Warfare and Wields the Green Power Ring
Voiced By: Victor Garber

Sinestro was born on the planet Korugar and grew to become a fearless warrior. His aptitudes made Sinestro a prime candidate for the Green Lantern Corps. As a Green Lantern, he was assigned Space Sector 1417. Sinestro served for years and became one of four with the highest seniority and was revered as a paragon of the Corps. Over time, Sinestro began to operate by fear in order to act as the one constant, unassailable force against the chaos in the universe. He concluded that the Guardians became weak and the Corps were reduced to mere garbage collectors. He envisioned a new order, built not by the faint of heart, to destroy the chaos. Sinestro believed his sacrifices would be worth it to bring absolute justice.

Sinestro made a pact with the warlord Kanjar Ro to extract the Yellow Element and weaponize it. When the Guardians discovered the Yellow Element was stolen, they conferred with the senior Lanterns. Abin Sur volunteered to infiltrate Ro's ship and find the Element. Sinestro secretly tipped off Ro and began to carefully recruit Lanterns to his cause. Boodikka joined him. Sinestro, Kilowog, Boodikka, and Tomar Re journeyed to Earth in search of Abin Sur but found Hal Jordan, instead. He managed to convince Jordan to return with them to Oa. The Guardians granted him permission to take Jordan as his apprentice in exchange for an evaluation. Unlike the other Lanterns, Sinestro always admired humans for their spirit and natural contempt for authority. He secretly prodded Jordan to see if he was a suitable candidate to join his agenda.

Many of the Lanterns began to realize the amount of pressure that was placed on Sinestro to capture Kanjar Ro but none approached him. Sinestro and Hal Jordan were then assigned to capture Cuch, Ro's enforcer and Sur's killer. They arrived on Cadmendoh and interrogated the bar owner, Labella, who shared some casual relationship with Sinestro. Sinestro tortured her in the open but Jordan interrupted. Sinestro was angered by this but a group of Lanterns arrived before he could finish his rant. He headed the interrogation and killed Cuch. The Guardians reprimanded him for his cruel measures and ordered him to bring in Ro alive.

Dispatched to the Kadian Space Terminal, Sinestro attempted to distract the others but Jordan spotted a cloaked figure and pursued. While on the run, Jordan went ahead and was knocked unconscious by Ro, himself. Sinestro arrived and rather than risk being implicated, killed Ro, and took his Energi Rod. He then allowed Jordan to take the blame for Ro's death. While everyone prepared to return Jordan to Earth, Sinestro visited the morgue and reconnected Kanjar Ro's synapses for information about the Yellow Element. However, Boodikka, Kilowog, and Jordan interrupted him. Boodikka revealed her affiliations and fought the two while Sinestro went to retrieve the Yellow Element.

Sinestro arrived on Qward and identified himself to a Weaponer. He awarded the Yellow Poer Ring and Battery to Sinestro before teleporting home with his comrades. After killing Tomar Re, Apros, and Isamot Kol, Sinestro returned to Oa and attacked. After the Yellow Battery irradiated the Green Element, the Corps were powerless and Sinestro began destroying power rings. However, Jordan managed to summon a massive amount of energy from the Element and fought Sinestro. Undaunted by Jordan's actions, he attempted to saw off Jordan's ring as a failsafe but was blasted. Kilowog destroyed Sinestro's ring. He was then either imprisoned or executed.
