Kanjar-Ro is a known warlord by the Green Lantern Corps. He was tolerated by them for a time. Sinestro formed a pact with Ro. In exchange for the location of the Yellow Element, Ro would use his contacts to weaponize it, and be a part of Sinestro's new order. They would periodically communicate on an astral plane.
The Guardians of the Universe discovered the Yellow Element was taken and called for a special session with the four senior Lanterns. Abin Sur volunteered to infiltrate Ro's ship. Sinestro secretly tipped off Ro and had Sur killed. However, he began to suspect Ro was not going to share the weapon with him. When the two groups came to a head, Ro attempted to calm the situation, and revealed he would be forced to implicate Sinestro.
Sinestro went with an alternate plan and killed Ro. While Jordan was blamed for it, Sinestro reconnected the synapses in Ro's skull and forced him to reveal the Yellow Element's location. When Boodikka was forced to kill Kilowog and Hal Jordan, Ro's corpse was blasted and most likely destroyed when his Energi-Rod was blown up.
