Rosa Guerra is the adoptive mother of Hernan Guerra, later known as Superman. She is a devout religious person and revered the Lady of Guadalupe. She and her husband Manuel found a baby in the middle of the Arizona desert. They were able to avoid detection from soldiers sent to sweep the area. They kept the infant as their son and named him Hernan. They went to America as migrant workers so their children could have a better life. Rosa believed God brought Hernan into their lives for a reason and it would be revealed in time. She worried about Hernan using his abilities because she felt the world wasn't ready to know about him yet.
When he was 18, Hernan shot a man in the face with heat vision after being struck in the back with a bottle. Hernan was consoled by Rosa. She tried to reiterate the Virgin Mother could guide him and she would pray for help to find a way but Hernan lashed out and called God a sadist. Rosa slapped him but apologized. Hernan denied her and instead begged for forgiveness. Hernan used his powers to protect his family when the sheriff arrived with a gun toting posse. Angered by this, Manuel screamed Hernan cursed their family and demanded he leave. Hernan said his goodbyes and flew away. Some time later, Rosa died from cancer of the pancreas. Hernan never knew until he returned years later. While visiting her grave, Hernan and Manuel made amends.
