General Zod was a ruthless commander from planet Krypton. He tried to seize power and take over the planet. Under his and Jor-El's leadership, Krypton would be united and prosper once again. Jor-El and many others warned him against using the planet's core as an energy source. Zod found the data insufficient, inconclusive, and useless. He drilled into Krypton's core to power his military machine. The planet was doomed. Jor-El chose to ally with the council instead of Zod. Amid his coup, Zod heard rumors Jor-El was preparing an Incubator Pod in his lab. He led a small force to Jor-El's lab and found the pod integrated into a space ship. He blasted Jor-El's hand off before he could submit his genetic code to the pod. Jor-El blamed him for the end of the world to which Zod pointed his gun to Jor-El's head. Lara pleaded for her husband's life. Zod paused and declared his seed deserved to be spread to the heavens. Zod submitted his genetic code. As the ship launched, he implored his child to show the universe his might. Zod and Lara's son was conceived in the pod and went on to become Superman of Earth.
