Pripyat is a city in northern Ukraine near the border with Belarus. Founded in 1970, it was the ninth nuclear city in the Soviet Union but it was evacuated after the Chernobyl Power Plant disaster. The city remained abandoned. So no one but Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman would be at risk, they were boomed from Zurich to Pripyat with Imperiex. Still in shock over Mother Box's death, Wonder Woman was blasted by Imperiex's heat vision. Superman demanded Batman to take her to safety to recover while he fought Imperiex alone. Superman and Imperiex fired heat vision blasts at each other and caused a massive explosion. Superman was clearly losing and was frozen solid. He broke free and continued to try and fight in vain. Wonder Woman realized the link Imperiex formed with them was still ative and they could use it and a shard of the Mother Box to win the battle. Batman repeatedly plunged the shard into Imperiex's head to drain his god-energy while Superman and Wonder Woman pummeled his body.
The shard then channeled their minds and fused their collective will to Wonder Woman's sword. They stabbed Imperiex's chest and invaded his psyche, tearing away the walls of consciousness and reversing his evolution. Imperiex was turned back into Jackson Alpert. Alpert felt his body regenerating and already beginning to evolve again. Wonder Woman sliced his head off. Superman used his heat vision to destroy his body. Before the victory could sink in, they were surrounded by three advanced aircraft armed with enough payload to level the city. Colonel Steve Trevor, President Amanda Waller, and Dr. Lex Luthor stepped out from one of the planes and proposed a much needed discussion for the sake of the world. They were flown to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and engaged in talks that led to the formation of the Justice League. Aspects of what happened in Pripyat were covered up by the U.S. government. A story was officially published that Jackson Alpert was de-powered and taken into government custody.
