Mumbai is a port and capital city located in west central India. It was one of the cities where Jackson Alpert opened a Transformation Center that offered genetic upgrades to the deepest pockets. One of the Forever People, Bear, was a native of Mumbai. When the Forever People started vying for dominance over one another, Bear erecting a floating citadel above Mumbai. Eventually, he was the victor and accepted as the de facto leader. All the Forevers went to Mumbai to pledge themselves to Bear and help map out the future.
Superman and Wonder Woman went to the citadel in peace but were rebuked. Superman initiated his plan and the fight began. Superman and Bear's battle took to the streets of Mumbai. Dozens died as a result. Some were hit by flying rubble. Some were crushed beneath collapsing buildings. Hundreds were seriously injured. Among the casulaties was Sam Lane, a doctor traveling across the world volunteering his skills in war zones. He was also Lois Lane's father. Batman jumped on Bear's back and bit his neck to administer an antidote to the Forever Formula. Batman and Superman returned to the citadel and put down the rest of the Forever People. Lois Lane watched footage of the battle and briefly felt pity for Superman. In a later interview, Superman expressed his grief over the innocents killed in Mumbai. Lane held him accountable and told him if he was really a hero, he would have found another way or died trying.
