The Eternity Institute is the cutting edge research facility founded by Jackson Alpert. The institute's global headquarters was built on a mountain in Switzerland. While responsible for advances in the fields of science, medicine and technology, the Eternity Institute's international press conference about its Forevertech was considered a seismic event. Using a Holo-Golem, Alpert addressed guests to the institute and introduced the first of the Forever People. Eventually, Wonder Woman went to the institute and was invited in by Alpert. Several days later, Superman arrived and pushed his way through a force field around the perimeter. Alpert sent Wonder Woman, Moonrider, Dreamer and Serifan to welcome him but a fight happened instead. Superman insisted he only came to learn and Alpert welcomed him in. After dining with Alpert and the Forever People, Superman and Wonder Woman were given the grand tour. Instead of pressing on, Alpert gave them quarters to think about accepting or declining an upgrade.

The next day, Superman took part in an upgrade but was overcome with agony. Wonder Woman had enough and broke him out of the containment chamber. Batman attempted to infiltrate the facility but he was soon surrounded by drones. They deemed he did not have proper clearance and ordered him to leave in five seconds. They electrocuted Batman into submission. The drones performed a bo-scan and concluded Batman was neutralized. Since the drones were programmed for normal humans, they had false positive results. Batman sneaked into the facility and hacked the computers for information. A few days later, Batman revealed his presence to Wonder Woman. After a total of four days recovering, Superman was brought by Wonder Woman to Batman. Batman revealed Jackson Alpert was really Doctor Psycho, an old enemy of Wonder Woman from the 1960s. They were ambushed and taken down by Alpert's Never People. Unconscious for days, the trio were placed in containment chambers. Alpert used DNA extracted from all three to allow himself to finally be upgraded.

Fastback, a Forever left to die by Alpert, managed to deal a killing blow to Alpert and released Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. It was that day in the institute, that the Justice League was born. They set out to stop the Forever People. Alpert survived and evolved into Imperiex. He killed Fastback then left the institute. An international task force occupied the institute. The former and now comatose Forever People were brought back and placed in chambers to be studied. Superman implored the team to study them and Psycho's research to their heart's content. Lex Luthor issued them a warning that they were still a bigger threat. As they departed the institute, the trio was attacked by Imperiex.
