The Incubator Pod, is housed in a Kryptonian ship, and was intended to carry the child of Jor-El and Lara. It would be the lone survivor of his home planet's destruction and the last of his race. Just as a seismic magnitude of 9.8 hit the planet, Jor-El finished setting Lara's egg in the Incubator Pod. He just needed to submit his genetic code with his fingerprint. However, rumors of his Incubator Pod had circulated. General Zod and several of his soldiers entered Jor-El's home. Zod blasted Jor-El's hand off and denounced his claims Zod destroyed the planet by drilling into the planet to power a war machine. Zod believed he had the vision and will to rule Krypton so he was the one that was going to spread his seed. He lent his genetic sample instead of Jor-El. The ship left Krypton just before its destruction. The child gestated in the Incubator Pod's artificial womb as the ship flew through space. It eventually landed on planet Earth somewhere in Arizona desert of the United States of America.

Manuel and Rosa Marie Guerra, a migrant couple, found the ship and took the baby before the military arrived and secured the landing site. Dr. Lex Luthor arrived and examined the ship as a farmer submitted testimony he found the ship already opened up. He dipped his pen into the artifical womb. Luthor ordered a sergeant to have his men search the area and to have the ship taken to S.T.A.R. Labs under Code Black parameters. Nothing was to get out to the public. Dr. Luthor was able to extract the ship's computer files intact. Utilizing Kryptonian science, Luthor had a satellite constructed and placed it in orbit near the Moon. At some point later, Superman requested the return of the ship to him from the government. Since Superman was powerful enough, Luthor suggested they give him fake copies of the computer files so he wouldn't try to emulate his birth father. They acquiesced to Superman's request. However, they followed Luthor's idea and lied about being able to extract the ship's computer files and gave him heavily damaged versions.

After the formation of the Justice League, the ship was kept in the center of the Tower of Justice. Superman had no luck recovering the computer files either and later hired Dr. Silas Stone to help retrieve the information. They were able to find a clip that made General Zod look like his last act was a heroic one. To execute his plan to unify the human race with his nanite bomb, Will Magnus needed an energy source strong enough to power it. He needed Superman's ship. After sending robots to murder his former comrades in the scientific community and framing the Justice League, Magnus was able manipulate events so that he was taken to the Tower of Justice to recuperate. Once restored to life by organic nanites injected by Platinum, Magnus had his robots wire the nanite bomb to the ship then activate the ship's core. Wonder Woman later powered the nanite bomb down by stabbing the console with her sword but the ship's core began to destabilize. Superman arrived and flew the ship into space where it detonated safely.
