As a cure for his lymphatic cancer, Kirk Langstrom came up with a compound he called Bat Venom as a cure. He continued to make strides as his health got worse. On graduation night, Langstrom continued working on it. After he was woken up by Tina and Will Magnus, Langstrom discovered the blood coagulants were almost matching. During simulations, the Bat Venom almost eradicated the lymphoma but the cell structure breaks down even as it forms. After seeing Magnus' nanite project, Langstrom realized he could program molecules to secure the structure and achieve stabilization. The nanites would act as agents to patch it all in. Five days later, only one lab mouse named Jerry survived testing of the Bat Venom. It was stronger and healthier than ever, its erthrocyte count was still up, and agglutination was normal. Langstrom didn't want to run more tests and risk running out of time. Too nervous to do it himself, Langstrom was injected by Magnus. Langstrom was cured but he was turned into a vampiric being who had to regularly consume blood to survive.
