Jeremy Moxon is the son of Gotham City crime lord Lew Moxon. Groomed from birth to one day succeed his father, Jeremy projected the illusion of the pure and perfect son. He virtually had no connection his father's organization and went on to attend Yale where he double majored in Biochemistry and Literature, even garnering a reputation of a classical musician. Moxon returned to Gotham when his father was murdered. He nurtured his mother Angela as she grieved and himself mourned alone. After Lew Moxon's funeral, Jeremy was stalked by Batman who was in search of an answer to why both loved a monster like Lew Moxon. As weeks passed, Batman observed Jeremy handle the news media gracefuly with as much honesty as the situation allowed. Obsessed with the paradox of how a figure of towering evil could raise a man of such compassion and decency, Batman decided to befriend Jeremy unware he was trying to consolidate control of his father's organization. After striking up a conversation over Vincent Van Gogh's self portrait, they became fast friends even though Moxon knew Langstrom killed his father.

During a game of chess, Moxon noticed Langstrom was distracted. Kirk Langstrom revealed his cancer, his cure, and current vampiric affiliction. Moxon believed Langstrom and helped work on a cure. The Sovereign, Moxon's rival for control of Gotham's underworld, had his mother killed. Jeremy took advantage of the situation and fed Langstrom a story about fears his father kept a record of all criminal activities that could implicate all his associates. Batman hid Jeremy at his lab and spent weeks dismantling the Sovereign's organization only to discover he was actually an undead Joe Chill. Batman chopped Chill to pieces and spent weeks studying his condition in hopes of perfecting a cure. However, Batman abandoned hope of a cure after he learned Jeremy was the other crime lord. Kirk Langstrom confronted Jeremy Moxon. Moxon exclaimed they could accomplish so much together and they were kindred spirits. Langstrom killed him.
