Chiraka is a planet home to an advanced society. However, they would once be threatened by a Khundian invasion. The Green Lantern Corps detected this event and declared it a priority one emergency. Salakk sought out the nearest Lanterns and found Sergeant Deegan with his four pupils. They were dispatched to Chiraka's capitol. While the four students protected the civilians, Deegan attempted to stop the Khunds alone. On the verge of death, Deegan was about to be executed by a Khund when Kilowog intervened and launced a taser sweep. The Khunds were neutralized and the remaining forces retreated from the capitol. The Chirakans cheered in victory as Deegan said his last words to Kilowog. It was on Chiraka where Kilowog became an official Green Lantern and the Corps' newest drill sergeant.
