The world of Betraussus is organized in a feudal manner with the warriors as its dominant class. After decades of battle, the warrior clans were reduced in size and began to employ assassination and intrigue. Finally, King Nor, of the current ruling Royal Hose of Betra, was able to instill peace. Nor wanted his son Prince Ragnar to succeed him but Ragnar wanted to become a Green Lantern. Nor's daughter, Princess Iolande, however was well groomed for royalty. Ragnar manipulated events to attract a Green Lantern to Betraussus and take his place. His intentions were discovered on Oa and Ragnar was executed by his people on Betraussus. She trained alongside Kilowog and Tomar-Re under Sergeat Deegan.
