Shadow Demons are soulless creatures from the Antimatter Universe. They were last seen in the great crisis. Eons later, Krona reconstituted himself in the Antimatter Universe and brought the demons under his control. He used the sun in Sector 0 to create a rift and return to the Positive Matter Universe to destroy Oa. Several demons escaped the initial rift and murdered the Green Lantern Ardakian Trawl. Since the Shadow Demons are composed of antimatter, physical contact with anyone or anything of equal or greater mass from the positive matter universe resulted in instant disintegration of both entities.
As the Green Lantern Corps monitored the sun, more rifts and five more Shadow Demons appeared. Just as almost every member arrived, more Shadow Demons appeared and attacked the Corps. Sinestro launched a grenade-like construct and destroyed several but Arisia was caught in the shockwave and knocked unconscious. Going on Arisia's suggestion, the Corps attempted to launch Oa at Krona and destroy him. However, it was not enough power and the Shadow Demons began to overrun the Corps. Mogo arrived and vaporized several Demons then added its ring to the effort, effectively neutralizing Krona.
