Krona was a Maltusian scientist who dared to view the origin of the universe, despite an ancient legend forbid the act. For defying authority, Krona helped create the Antimatter Universe and nearly annihilated all of creation. As punishment, Krona was turned into disembodied energy and cast throughout the cosmos. He was thought gone but eventually reconstituted himself in the Antimatter realm. Krona then brought the Shadow Demons under his control and proceeded to return to the Positive Matter Universe and destroy Oa.
Billions of years later, Krona used a sun in Sector 0, where Oa was located, or the center of the universe, to create a rift connected directly to the Positive Matter Universe. Krona sent several Shadow Demons in advance before crossing over himself. After several Green Lanterns perished in battle, Arisia realized Krona was now made of Antimatter. If the Corps could find matter of equal or greater mass, they could neutralize Krona. Per Arisia's suggestion, the Corps shot Oa into Krona. Mogo arrived and provided the final push that sandwiched Krona between Oa and the sun. The prophecy of Oa's destruction was fulfilled and the Corps set out to rebuild.
