The Penguin was born into a wealthy Gotham family but had physical traits that earned him the hated "Penguin" nickname. Outcast, Penguin turned to crime. He joined Joker's gang and handled the team's finances. During the Gotham First National Bank robbery, Penguin shadowed Joker, Riddler, and Two-Face up above in his Penguin Copter. Unable to evade Batman, Joker ejected from Riddler's car and hooked himself to the copter. Penguin and Joker returned to their hideout empty handed and two less allies. Penguin's snoring earned the ire of their new comrade, Lex Luthor. Luthor's teleporter technology was a boon and Penguin celebrated the team's riches. From his Penguin Copter, the Penguin attacked Hawkman above Slaughter Swamp. As Penguin powered up the helicopter's main cannon, Batman arrived and cripped it with missiles. Penguin surfaced from the swamp with Solomon Grundy. In the battle with the Super Friends, Penguin fired at Cyborg with his trick umbrella but Aquaman easily captured him by pinning his suit jacket with his Trident.
