On one fateful Christmas day, a family of three left their favorite movie theater in Gotham City's Park Row. The couple's son, Bruce, is amazed by their movie choice, "The Mask of Zorro." It is time to go home. They take a wrong turn into an unlit alleyway. A desperate man with a gun demands the group's valuables. A scuffle follows. Within seconds, Dr. Thomas and Martha Wayne are dead. Their son, Bruce Wayne has forever had his childhood stolen from him.

With the lingering feelings of outrage, despair, and vengeance, he persevered through the pursuit of justice and created a plan for the rest of his life. Once old enough, Bruce Wayne traveled the world and honed his body and mind to the highest physical peak. Along the way, he studied every known science including criminology, forensics, chemistry and psychology. Wayne trained under manhunters and martial arts masters and in time, became an unrivaled master, himself. Batman also became the master of disguise. Years later, Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham City. He took on what most critics called a figurehead position as joint CEO in Wayne Enterprises, as he maintained a public image of a billionaire playboy.

One day, Wayne investigated a den of bats on his property and discovered a system of caverns that stretched beyond his 150 acre estate into most of Gotham. He converted the caverns into his alter-ego's base of operations, complete with state of the art technology pinched secretly from Wayne Enterprises Research and Development. Chemistry and forensics lab, a high-tech computer database, a secret driveway, dock and shrines decorated the cave. Wayne then created a suitable identity for himself. It was something to use the darkness as a weapon, to strike fear in the hearts of criminals, Batman. Years later, he went on to help found the Justice League.

Batman funded, designed, and led the construction of a formal headquarters for the Justice League, the Watchtower. A parallel Luthor's appearance did little to dissaude Batman from completing the Tower and protecting their on Earth first and foremost. While the rest left with Luthor, Batman remained behind. A short time later, the Watchtower's alert system detected an intrusion. Superwoman, Captain Super, Uncle Super, and Captain Super Junior arrived in search of the Quantum Trigger, a detonator Luthor secretly hid on the Watchtower. Unable to stave off their super powers for long, Batman ejected from his construction suit and teleported in several allies: Aquaman, Firestorm, Red Tornado, Black Canary, and Black Lightning. He then slipped away and followed Superwoman to figure out their agenda.

Superwoman overpowered Batman and found the Trigger. As she and Captain Super teleported home, Batman jumped in and followed. After dispatching Super, she continued to toy with him and easily cracked one of his ribs. Batman continued to fight through pain and released several pellets filled with anesthetic gas. His gamble paid off and Superwoman inhaled them, thinking it was simply a smoke screen for him to escape. Batman radioed in the Justice League to regroup and question Luthor about the Trigger. When Owlman betrayed his own allies and teleported away, Luthor and Batman worked to trace his destination. Batman knew someone with enhanced speed was needed to lock on Owlman's carrier wave but there was the risk it would affect the person's physiology. He wouldn't allow the Flash and Johnny Quick impulsively demanded he do it to spare his world.

Injured and not augmented by a power suit, Batman relied on his wits to try to convince Owlman to abort his insane scheme. When that failed, Batman quickly reprogrammed the Transit Device and used a bola to bind Owlman to it as the device teleported the Quantum Eigenstate Device from Earth Prime to an uninhabited frozen Earth. Batman was still not without compassion. He left Owlman with the chance to abort the countdown or use the Transit Device to escape, both of which Owlman consciously ignored.
