Starro is a purple alien invertebrate with five protruding tentacles and gives off the appearance of a giant starfish. In reality, he is one of the universe's most feared conquerors. Starro's plan always centers around asexually producing enough pyshic parasitic clones of himself, then sending them to a chosen planet, attach themself to its inhabitants' faces, attack their central nervous system, and take over their minds. As long as the clone retains physical contact, it can control its victim indefinitely.
Eventually, Starro sets his sights on Earth. He landed and attacked Science City and planned to absorb the collective knowledge of scientists living there. He was met with resistance by several superheroes, including Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. They utilized barrels of lime to harden Starro and trap him in a thick white shell. Years later, J'onn J'Onzz shared this memory with a parallel version of Rose Wilson.
