In the 1960s, General King discussed G.I. Robot with Dr. William Magnus during a publicity tour. Magnus preferred "AI system" over the term "robot." Magnus revealed he was always fascinated with the old film of G.I. in combat but admitted he only just realized he has some type of vague self-awareness and was impressed. King revealed they were retiring him from the stage and thought he could be of use to Magnus and his studies. Magnus agreed.
