G.I. Robot was built by top scientists in 1943 to help in the American effort to end World War II. He was programmed to eliminate Nazis and seemed fixated on finding and killing them. Both of G.I. Robot's arms can switch out to automatic machine guns. G.I. Robot was embedded with Easy Company in the European theater of combat. They marched through a forest hoping to get the jump on Nazis in the area. Sergeant Rock advised G.I. to follow their lead. Rock had everyone hold position then asked Little Sure Shot what he saw. From his vantage point, Sure Shot realized the Nazis were in Easy's midst and warned Rock. Rock ordered everyone to fall back but the Nazis opened fire. G.I. Robot scanned the Nazis while Easy took cover. He extended his legs and advised Rock to get down. Rock ordered everyone to hit the dirt. G.I. shot and killed every Nazi present. Easy Company celebrated in a bar. Bulldozer declared G.I. Robot was forever a brother of every man in Easy Company. Everyone toasted to him. He felt joy.

In June 1944, G.I. killed 38 Nazis. In September 1944, he killed 92 Nazis during the Battle of Huertgen Forest. In October 1944, he killed 14 Nazis in the Battle of Aachen. An exact count is not known but G.I. Robot is estimated to have killed over 300 Nazis during the course of World War II. G.I. Robot was in Times Square in New York City on Victory-in-Europe Day. He stood near the couple famously photographed kissing each other. In the 1960s, G.I. Robot was used for a military publicity tour. The host claimed he took down over 1000 enemy troops in the war and introduced him to the audience. It quickly became clear he was not suited for the publicity tour. The host asked him if he could call him "G.I." but he pointed out he already did. G.I. asked him if he checked the identification cards of everyone present. The host replied they hadn't then asked why. G.I. believed there could be known Nazis and promised to dispatch them. The audience became concerned. The host reckoned there were no Nazis present. G.I. thought that's what a Nazi would say.

While the host conferred with a director, General King discussed G.I. Robot with Dr. William Magnus. Magnus preferred "AI system" over the term "robot." Magnus revealed he was always fascinated with the old film of G.I. in combat but admitted only he just realized he has some type of vague self-awareness and was impressed. King revealed they were retiring him from the stage and thought he could be of use to Magnus and his studies. Magnus agreed. G.I. Robot was transferred to Magnus's laboratory and was partially disassembled. He awoke and saluted Magnus. Magnus introduced himself and described himself as a scientist and engineer with a specialty in artificial intelligence. G.I. asked him if he was a Nazi. Magnus replied he was not. G.I. was disappointed and asked where the rest of his body was. Magnus revealed he was studying him and would piece him back together later, perhaps with a few improvements if he was feeling generous. He told G.I. he was truly remarkable work, especially for 1943. G.I. asked if there were Nazis nearby.

Magnus noticed how preoccupied he was with Nazis. G.I. stated he was created with the sole mandate to kill Nazis and their allies. Magnus asked him if he wanted to kill Nazis. G.I. replied what he wants was irrelevant and his directive is all that matters. Magnus asked him if he, theoretically, had no directive, what would he desire. G.I. thought about it then revealed someday, he would like with be reunited with Easy Company and kill Nazis with them. He asked Magnus if he'd seen them. Magnus lit his pipe and told him he had not and the War was 20 years ago. G.I. listed off their names but none rang any bells with Magnus. He promised he was going to help him a great deal. G.I. asked if was going to help him kill Nazis. Magnus clarified studying him would aid in the creation of the next wave of automatons. G.I. Robot bounced from lab to lab between the 1960s and 1990s. The U.S. government lost track of him or just forgot he existed after a while. For 10 years or so, he was in various collections of military aficionados.

By the 2010s, an inactive G.I. Robot ended up in a military memorabilia store in Hub City. Justin, the owner, presented it to Sam Fitzgibbon. Justin reckoned it would bring a certain je ne sais quoi to any military collection. Fitzgibbon purchased G.I. Robot and took him home. He introduced him to his pet cats Angus, Socks, Clarabelle, Morty, Simon, and Lizzy. After pouring some gasoline down his mouth, Fitzgibbon successfully activated G.I. Robot. He stood at attention and asked Fitzgibbon for his name and rank. He happily gave it but revealed he had no rank on account of his leg preventing him from enlisting. They repeatedly saluted each other to Fitzgibbon's delight. He showed off his military collection then they watched "The Dirty Dozen." Fitzgibbon thought it was nice to have a family. Some time later, he put some winter-proof clothing on G.I. just in case then they drove to a meeting of the Hub City National Socialists Club. Fitzgibbon told G.I. they were friends who were interested in a better country like them.

Fitzgibbon introduced G.I. to Billy, believing he would be helpful to their cause. Billy was glad to have a metal fist in the fight for what's right. G.I. slowly became suspicious upon observing certain tattoos and dress worn by some members. Billy took to the podium and officially started the meeting. Behind him was giant swastika imagery. G.I. Robot was delighted to in a room of Nazis. He shot Fitzgibbon then opened fire on the club members. He found Billy hiding behind the podium and killed him. G.I. Robot was arrested and stood trial as he met the state's current definition of "man." He was charged with killing 32 people. The jury found him guilty of second-degree murder. G.I. Robot was imprisoned at Belle Reve Correctional Center's secret Non-Human Internment Division. In 2022, Amanda Waller assigned Rick Flag Sr. to protect Princess Ilana Rostovic, the heir apparent to Pokolistan, whom the United States of America were in negotiations with for unmined petroleum deposits, from Circe and the Sons of Themyscira.

Flag asked about the discontinued dishwasher. Waller pointed out it killed over 300 Nazis in World War II and thought it might come into use again someday. G.I. scanned the Jenga set he and Dr. Phosphorus were playing with. He detected a swastika pattern and shot it to pieces. Waller and Flag entered the common area. Dr. Phosphorus, the Bride, and Weasel charged at them. Flag drew his gun. Waller, unworried, held out her Nanite Detonation Control and applied a crippling electrocution to all five prisoners. She told Flag they were his new task force, Task Force M. M for Monsters. She also gave them the nickname Creature Commandos and tossed him the controller. They were flown to Pokolistan and treated to a banquet at Poko Castle with Princess Ilana. Task Force M was transported on an Osprey named Sheba. While on route to Pokolistan, G.I. Robot detected unease in Weasel and wondered if it was afraid of being discovered as Nazi scum. Flag assured him he was not a Nazi. Phosphorus pointed out he was a child killer. Flag revealed he had a bad experience the last trip he took on the Osprey. They were met at the airport by the Pokolistani military and a paramilitary unit known as the Amethyst Knights.

At a banquet prepared for the task force, Nina Mazursky noticed G.I. Robot had nothing and asked a server to bring diesel fuel. In the evening, she noted the view was beautiful but G.I. Robot stated he did not enjoy landscapes devoid of dead Nazis. He asked if they would be killing Nazis soon as Waller promised. She mused he would be soon. He asked her if she would like to kill Nazis with him. She promised if it was with anyone, it would be with him. She fist bumped his arm. He was pleased to have a friend to kill with Nazis with after waiting 74 years, 23 days, and 52 minutes. Flag assigned G.I. to stand guard outside Princess Ilana's bedroom. He recited the various battles he fought during the War and how many Nazis he killed in each. Dr. Phosphorus attempted to steal the Nanite Detonation Control but failed. Princess Ilana took Flag to a bathroom to tend to his wounds. Phosphorus, Weasel, and G.I. stood at the doorway and worried as Flag stared at them while holding the Nanite Detonation Control.

As they walked to the transport, Flag made it clear they should have let Alexi brief him sooner about Mazursky and Bride leaving the castle grounds. Phosphorus shrugged and told him to sue him for being a bro and doing him a favor. Flag didn't think much of the favor. Phosphorus concluded he couldn't do anything right in his eyes. Flag advised him to drop the martyr complex since he tried to murder him two hours ago. G.I. Robot armed a gun and asked Flag if Phosphorus was a dirty Nazi. Flag stated he wasn't. They loaded up into the transport and took off for Frankenstein Manor. The Commandos and Alexi took up positions at the manor's fountain. G.I. Robot asked to open fire but Flag ordered him to stay back and keep mum. On Flag's signal, they breached the manor and discovered Bride in the foyer chained to a chair with her mouth taped shut. She told them Circe and the Sons of Themyscira were gone. Flag asked why she was screaming. Bride wanted them to take the tape off so she screamed. G.I. Robot asked where Mazursky was. Bride revealed the Sons took her upstairs before they left. Flag reprimanded Bride.

G.I. Robot found Mazursky trapped in a bath tub covered with barb wire. G.I. Robot stated his disappointment in having no Nazis to kill when he arrived was lessened by his pleasure that she was still alive. Mazurksy put her hand on his but he misinterpreted it and shook her hand. Mazursky revealed she couldn't leave the water since her helmet was destroyed but she had a spare back at Poko Castle. G.I. Robot picked her up in the bath tub and carried it downstairs to the transport. Alexi and the Commandos joined the battle at the castle. Alexi and the Commandos took cover behind the fountain. G.I. Robot asked Flag if the Sons were Nazis. Flag got an idea and told G.I. those were Nazis. G.I. Robot opened fire on the Sons. His upper half levitated into the air then each arm produced three guns each and he mowed the Sons down. G.I. Robot was so enamored with killing Nazis, he failed to see Circe behind him. She blew him up then flew towards Ilana's bedroom window. Mazursky found G.I. Robot's head. He was happy they fought Nazis together and called it a beautiful day. He shut down. She cried and held his head to her chest.

G.I. Robot was rebuilt by A.R.G.U.S. and given a much more robust and towering body. John Economos took the Bride to the team's new room in the Non-Human Internment Division. G.I. Robot was drinking motor oil but stopped to salute the Bride and report for duty.
