Ivan is Bogdana's pet dog. In 1831, Ivan came upon Eric Frankenstein's body washed ashore. Bogdana felt his face and Ivan dragged Frankenstein back to their cottage. While she applied an ointment to his wounds, he suddenly grabbed her wrist and asked what it was. Ivan woke up and growled fiercely. Bogdana told him it was okay and he went back to sleep. While Frankenstein recovered, he and Ivan became friends. They killed at least one turkey together. Ivan remained quiet as Frankenstein prepare his shot. Bogdana later admitted to him she, and especially Ivan, have been the happiest they have ever been in his company even though he was a grouch. One night, Frankenstein locked Ivan out of the cottage while he killed Bogdana because he wasn't sure how he would react. In the morning, Frankenstein departed for good. He whistled and Ivan followed after him.
