Selina Kyle witnessed the deaths of her parents, Brian and Maria Kyle, when they killed themselves. Kyle was remanded to the Sprang Hall Juvenile Detention Center but she ran away and lived on the streets of Gotham City. She ended up in the district known as the East End and worked as a prostitute. To protect herself, Kyle studied karate. Inspired by Batman, she took up her own costumed identity: Catwoman. However, she operates by her own ambiguous moral code and steals.
Catwoman gave her blessings to her friend Holly Robinson when she elected to leave the city. She gave Robinson a bracelet with an engraved message. One night, Catwoman noticed two henchmen chasing after cat. She saved the cat and found Robinson's bracelet on it. Catwoman decided to pursue the henchmen and their boss, Rough Cut, to the Kitty Corner strip club. Catwoman posed as a stripper to get close enough to the trio and take them out. Rough Cut resisted and managed to escape. Catwoman stole a motorcycle and gave chase, narrowly surviving an explosion and being run over. She continued on to stop Rough Cut's shipment from getting loaded. Rough Cut then took control of a truck and attempted to kill Catwoman again. During the fight, Catwoman managed to release the truck's crane and caused it to flip over. Catwoman then opened the shipment cannister and released several kidnapped women, including Holly Robinson. Catwoman admonished her, gave her some diamonds for money, said her goodbyes, and leapt off into the night.
