Stanton Vreeland was a "playboy sportsman" who was a famous hunter and conservationist. He had a son who would go on to become a general in the U.S. Army. He would often tell his son stories about the legendary Court of Owls, a secret society that controlled Gotham City. On his deathbed, Vreeland told him he encountered a Talon, the Court's assassins, in the 1950's when he tried to expose the existence of the Court, and put five shotgun blasts into him. The Talon was unhurt. Granddaughter Veronica Vreeland dedicated a conservation hall at a museum in Gotham City to him. At the reception, Selina Kyle pointed out Stanton Vreeland had to promote conservation or else there would be nothing for him left to hunt.
