Wayne Enterprises grew from humble beginnings, founded by Dr. Thomas Wayne as a pharmaceutical company. Bruce Wayne and long-time friend of the Wayne family Lucius Fox diversified the company into computer science and industrial research. It grew into a multinational conglomerate worth billions. The company eventually branched off into every possible industry such as Technology, Biomedical, Medical, Cosmetics, Motors, Aerospace, Applied Science, Shipping, and Electronics.
At some point, a piece of alien hardware confiscated by Superman was turned over to Wayne Enterprises for testing. It was kept in a secure vault at WayneTech. One night, a giant robot secretly piloted by Lex Luthor breached the building and fired laser blasts at the scientists inside. It ripped the vault containing a corpose of Brainiac from its foundation next. Batman appeared and told it to return the vault. The robot turned and shot at him, punched the ceiling, and left WayneTech. Batman fired his grapling gun and threw three exploding Batarangs at the robot. It was not damaged and threw a delivery truck at him then flew away.
