Wayne Manor was built over an elaborate network of caves in northern Gotham City. Colonies of bats call them home. Bruce Wayne constructed a secret base of operations in these caves, later named the Batcave, inspired by the Gray Ghost Lair from the television series. Azrael was allowed access to the Batcave. Jason Todd returned to the Batcave disguised as Batman but Tim Drake saw through the facade. However, he and Alfred Pennyworth were no match for Todd and the former was kidnapped. Deadman became bored in the Batcave waiting for Batman to analyze a Talon gauntlet and briefly possessed Pennyworth to talk to Nightwing. Batman and Pennyworth used a satellite to track down Renee Montoya's squad car then both departed in the Batmobile since the former was too injured to drive. Batman gathered Pennyworth, Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin in the Batcave to tell them about his history with Emerson Mayfield and his true criminal nature in the wake of his bid to return to the Mayor's Office. Batman worked into the night until 8:30 on Election Day trying to figure out how to block Mad Hatter's encoded mind control signal.

On the night of March 28, Pennyworth asked Batman if he was taking part in the Muscle's transfer to a safe house. Batman admitted he was not invited officially. Pennyworth hoped for a safe passage, noting Muscle would be a powerful witness if all went well. Batman was more concerned about how a prison chaplain was able to convince Muscle to reconsider and accept the deal to testify against Esther Valestra. Pennyworth recalled the saying that Heavens can work miracles. Batman retorted that was not a thing in Gotham. During the Cassie Kendall incident, Pennyworth went to the Batcave and later contacted Batman with a positive identification of the kidnapper who fell on his limousine outside the Sorkin Arms after consoling him about Kendall's lack of monogamy when they dated during college. Robin watched Alfred Pennyworth patch up Batman after he was shot out a window and provided a pain-laden soundtrack. Pennyworth did not find it necessary. Robin noted those rubber bullets left some nasty bruises.

Batman informed him not all of them were from bullets because his assailant had the strength of ten men at least thanks to an enhanced suit she was wearing under her costume. Robin asked how he knew it was a suit. Batman brought up schematics on the Batcomputer and revealed it was a prototype battle suit developed by WayneTech in partnership with the military aimed at making its wearer stronger, more agile, and resistant to conventional weapon attacks. He added they were even experimenting with limited flight ability. Robin was impressed and asked when they were getting Batsuit upgrades. Batman cautioned it would be years from now because the suit was still in the testing phase. Robin keyed on "was." Batman revealed Lucius Fox informed him it was stolen. Robin speculated Scarecrow or Bane had it but Batman knew only someone with top-level access could get near it. He replayed security footage showing Colonel Nora Haslett, the military overseer on the project, was the last person to visit the test site.

Barbara Gordon hailed Batman on comms from the Batcave and notified him of a high-priority message from someone called "The Wall." Days later, Barbara Gordon brought tea down to the Batcave. Bruce Wayne told her Task Force X no longer had a reason to eliminate Straightman and Amanda Waller pulled strings to ensure Professor Strange was blamed for the incident. Gordon assumed Joker was still in intensive care. Tim Drake thought it wouldn't be too much to hope he stayed that way. Gordon asked about Carl Finley. Wayne told her he was still undergoing therapy and the Psi-Ber Helmet was able to remove most of Joker's brainwashing and Task Force X was completely restored since they were under Joker's control for a shorter amount of time, Muscle was the last to have it erased, and Waller kept her word and released Harley Quinn's friends. Drake was eager to put some bat ears on the WayneTech prototype suit but Wayne was done with super soldier projects and was putting it in storage.

Batman and Robin arrived at the Batcave after speaking to Poison Ivy and Dr. Francince Langstrom to see Pennyworth waiting for them with Ra's al Ghul and Ubu. They settled up in the manor. Some time later, Batman contacted Ivy. Ivy informed Batman the Gaia Grain has a remarkable rate of growth, overtaking her greenhouse in one day from just a small dose of her own special plant food. Harley hacked her way through the grain in search of Ivy. Ivy corroborated what Batman was told, the grain was capable of flourishing in the most hostile environment and seemed to be an inexhaustible food source. She admitted whoever created it was a miracle worker. Ivy shot Harley in the face with a spray bottle then continued with a concern of hers. A strange, almost defensive sensation came from the grain whenever she touched it. It resisted forming a bond with her unlike all forms of vegetation. Batman asked her to keep trying. Ivy was surprised he knew the word "please" and called it a day of miracles.

Talia al Ghul entered the Batcave and told Batman the results would always be the same. Batman insisted he had to be sure. She repeated it was change at a better life for all humanity as well as the two of them. Robin ran down to tell Batman there was a security breach but stopped after he saw Talia. He then informed Batman there was a message on their comm line from Catwoman.
