Amusement Mile is a section of land in north-east Gotham City named after a carnival located there. The Joker and Harley Quinn initiated their plan to capture the second Robin and set off a public break up at Amusement Mile under the guise of celebrating the anniversary of their first heist together. Harley pretended to be upset about the lack of romance and was further angered when Joker presented her with a Beppo doll to snuggle with. She remarked she got more affection from deworming Bud and Lou and declared they were done then stormed off. Joker yelled she would come crawling back like always. Joker was about to set off for the whack-a-mole when Harley returned atop a bulldozer. Joker was forced to jump off the wharf. Four years later, one night, after Azrael recovered the Shawl of Magdalene, Jason Todd hid on a Ferris Wheel and spied on the Joker, who was in the House of Mirrors with his playing cards. Todd admitted to himself it wasn't always easy for him to work with allies and bitter experience taught him to appreciate them while he could.

The Joker noticed someone on the Wacky Wheel ferris wheel and notified his goon, Straightman of the incursion. Jason Todd loaded his hand gun and remarked it felt like a lifetime ago, not only four years ago. Joker joked he was curious why their visitor came in the dead of the night when it was so cold out. While doing a curl rep with a barbell, Straightman asked how cold it was. Joker was amused and poked the back of his head and he explained the visitor was packing heat. Todd reminded himself he was only performing reconnaissance to scope out Joker's movements and see if he had any back up. Jason Todd was relieved Harley Quinn nor Bud and Lou were around. His thoughts were interrupted when Straightman started bashing the base of the ferris wheel with his barbell. After the wheel fell onto the ground, Straightman lifted up one of the passenger cars. Todd shot him several times and it was as if he missed and Straightman was unhurt. He tossed the car and Todd went flying. Joker drove by in a bumper car and tossed a grenade at him. He grabbed the back of Straightman's collar and yanked him along as he drove out of Amusement Mile. Joker quipped it was time to say "Good night, Gracie." Straightman asserted that was his line. Joker was amused and laughed. Jason Todd extricated himself from the debris and fled the scene. Not long after, police and Batman went over the grounds. Commissioner Gordon informed Batman that Joker was seen on Jean Street, heading for the turnpike. Batman picked up a rod and lifted up a handgun. He deduced Joker had a visitor and it wasn't a friendly call.

Barbara Gordon hailed Batman on comms and announced she just interfaced with the stolen WayneTech battle suit and could see what the thief was seeing. She revealed the thief was heading for Gotham's old eastside carnival, one of Joker's recent but vacated haunts. Batman and Robin intercepted the thief but before he could warn Robin of the suit's hidden weapons, Robin was immobilized in a metal bola. She fired electricity at Batman but he dodged and kicked her into the carousel. He tried to reason with her but she knew he was going to put Straightman in prison. She bashed him with one of the carousel's horses. Gordon accessed the suit's remote control and shut it down. Batman unmasked the thief. She was Professor Strange's assistant, Gretchen Gallway. He noted she was ex-military and a former medic who was with the Army's super-soldier program since day one. Gallway stated she was acting on her own and wanted to save Straightman from everyone.

Gallway told them about Straightman's origins, her misgivings about the program, and how Joker used Strange's Psi-Ber Helmet to brainwash him. She speculated Joker was getting back at Strange because of their unpleasant history at Arkham Asylum then admitted to stealing the battle suit to get close enough to Straightman and stole Colonel Haslett's I.D. Card to steal it. She believed she could use the helmet to purge the Joker's control from Straightman's brain but he was already disassociating from reality and becoming psychotic like the rest of the super soldier subjects. Robin asked what happened to them. Gallway revealed they were all eliminated when they became impossible to control but any record of that was covered up already. Batman asked where the helmet was currently.
