Dick Grayson was the first Robin and currently operates as Nightwing. Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson went to Haley's Circus when it was in Gotham. Grayson was recognized as a former member of the Flying Graysons. He stood and waved, but lost his popcorn. She feigned innocence and believed it was one of the cute acrobats from the last act that recognized him and let the ringmaster know. Deadman observed them but decided not to possess him after he saw Gordon lean in to kiss Grayson on the cheek. Deadman recalled the last adventure of his life was with Grayson. After General Vreeland was attacked by a Talon, Nightwing took first watch over his hospital room. He reported in hours later and nothing happened but the general was stable. Batman appreciated it and informed him Robin was on the way to relieve him. He wondered if the one who killed Hill and the one who attacked the general was the same person. Batman was positive. Nightwing wanted to know why they never heard of the Court of Owls when Batman knew Gotham's history inside and out. Batman thought he did and looked through General Vreeland's Court of Owls collection.

Unbeknowst to Nightwing, Deadman possessed Batman to write him a note. Nightwing thought he simply cut out for a minute. Nightwing and Robin later returned to the Batcave. Deadman possessed Pennyworth so he could greet Nightwing properly. Hamilton Hill Junior was perplexed by the increasing popularity of his political opponent Emerson Mayfield and called Dick Grayson, his old pledge brother, to his office. Grayson already deduced he wanted something. Junior was still confident he would win the election and become mayor officially but wanted some insurance, namely an endorsement from Bruce Wayne. Grayson cautioned him Wayne didn't do endorsements. Junior didn't see a problem since he already got a campaign donation from him and Grayson was his son. Grayson clarified he was his ward. Junior didn't want to split hairs and asked him again. Nightwing asked. Batman said no. Nightwing was satisfied but was still curious. Batman stated he wasn't going to turn Bruce Wayne into a kingmaker.

On Election Day, Nightwing was notified by Pennyworth that Barbara Gordon fell victim to Mad Hatter and his mind control technology. Pennyworth was able to finally trace the signal on her phone and passed along the coordinates to Batman and Nightwing. Nightwing realized he was closer to it and was literally above it. On his motorcycle, he hopped off the highway and pursued a WGOB van. He found Gordon's phone taped to the front bumper. The driver claimed she had no idea how that got there. Nightwing concluded it was a diversion and briefed Batman over comms. He searched the phone's call logs and did a quick search on "Ms. Hanbury" and discovered she was March Hare, a known partner of Mad Hatter. He found March Hare and Barbara Gordon just in time before the latter was forced to jump off the building. He threw one of his projectiles which knocked the mind control headband off Gordon then it bounced off Hare's face. Nightwing shared the results of his research. Hare found him to be quite the detective but thought it was a pity he didn't see "him" coming.

Mr. Wing appeared and punched him. He thought "Nightwing" was a stupid name for a flightless bird. Nightwing quipped if he did anything besides squawk and called him "Polly." Wing grabbed him with his feet and flew up into the air then dropped him. Nightwing threw out a line, snagged Wing, and swung him into a billboard. Gordon, meanwhile, defeated Hare.
