Floyd Lawton, the reputed top marksman in the world, ascended the underworld as the assassin for hire, Deadshot who only takes on the most suicidal of missions. At some point, he became a member of Amanda Waller's Task Force X, a black ops team of super criminals who work off their prison sentence by taking on suicide missions. Deadshot attended Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's Christmas party at the Iceberg Lounge in Gotham City. Over a year later, Task Force X was dispatched to Gotham City for Captain Finley, now Straightman. From a distance of 100 yards, Deadshot fired a diamond-tipped tranquilizer into Straightman's carotid artery. Muscle and Katana attacked Straightman next but Joker intervened with smoke bombs. The team returned to their local headquarters, The Institute, and had a squirmish with Batman. Deadshot raised his gauntlet to the back of Batman and teased it would be a shame to blow his head off after he saved his sorry butt.
Batman already deduced Deadshot was the marksman who fired a dart into Straightman at the fight prior. Waller broke things up and heard Batman out. As Batman left, Deadshot had him dead to rights but Waller told him to save it. She stated Straightman was the target and if Batman wound up as collateral damage, that was on him. Muscle and Deadshot held Poison Ivy hostage as insurance in case Harley Quinn refused to help Waller. After a long night of searching, Task Force X arrived at the Pizza Clown Family Restaurant. Deadshot asked for the skinny on the place. Harley warned the team she and Joker booby-trapped all the games and clowns to explode just in case Batman came to investigate. King Shark saw a whoopee cushion and sat on it. Harley could not warn him in time and a bomb was detonated. Joker used the Psi-Ber Helmet to brainwash everyone but Harley and King Shark then they hijacked a S.W.A.T. van and stormed the south entrance of Camp Finger.
After Joker used a tank to blow a hole in the main building, Colonel Haslett had enough and pulled her handgun. Joker signaled Deadshot who shot her right shoulder. Robin jump kicked Deadshot while Batgirl provided cover with gas balls. Joker told the Task Force X team there were weekend passes for whoever got the first kill. Batgirl, Robin, and Haslett took cover behind a giant satellite dish. Robin saw Deadshot with a bazooka. Batman swung and and kicked Deadshot. The bazooka went off and the explosion took out Muscle and Boomerang. Task Force X was completely restored with the helmet since they were under Joker's control for a shorter amount of time.
