Selina Kyle is an advocate for animal protection organizations, primarily wild cats. She moonlights as Catwoman, a master thief, and has a complicated relationship with Batman. On behalf of Mr. Freeze, who remained anonymous, Penguin hired Catwoman to steal the Shawl of Magdalene from the Order of St. Dumas. She completed her job but became a target of the Order's champion, Azrael. Batman chased Catwoman roof to roof after she stole a crown. Batman contemplated if Tim Drake was right and he took his time chasing Catwoman. She taunted Batman and threw her bag up in the air. Batman threw out a line with a Batarang affixed and snagged the crown. She blew him a kiss but before she could escape, Azrael captured her with a bola and swung away with her. Batman briefly considered he was the mystery stalker from the last few weeks but concluded he was a new player. Batman fired his grapnel line and followed. Azrael activated his Sword of Sin and cut a water tower stand. Batman disengaged his line from the falling tower and quickly fired it off again.

In an alley, Azrael tossed Catwoman into a trash can and demanded the Shawl of Magdalene. She couldn't believe he wanted that "rag." He became agitated and pointed his sword at her head then promised he never kids. He mused the loss of eye would get his point across. Batman intervened. Catwoman extricated herself from the bola. Batman ordered her to tell him about the Shawl. She admitted she stole it from some monastery. Batman told her the Shawl of Magdalene was sacred to the St. Dumas priests and it was supposed to have healing properties. Catwoman teased she should put it over his heart. Batman grabbed her wrist and told her to get serious, a vengeful God ruled over the Order and they would have no mercy on her. She revealed she was hired to steal it and no longer had the Shawl. Batman warned her to tell him who hired her and offered protection. She complied and was taken into custody by the Gotham City Police Department. Commissioner Gordon was concerned Batman requested a 24 hour guard for her. He stated trouble was already here. Batman convinced Azrael to drop his pursuit of Catwoman in place for going after the middleman, the Penguin.

During a planned heist, Catwoman hung outside a high-end jewelry store and prepared to enter through a hole she cut but she was overwhelmed by zombie Talons. When she came to, Catwoman found herself imprisoned in an underground cell. All she could do to not go insane was count the days. Harley Quinn tried to plan a girl's night out after a misunderstanding with Poison Ivy. However, Catwoman did not respond to Harley's invite but was not concerned she was missing in action. Many months later, during a four month slump in criminal activity, she observed four Talons trying to restrain and walk Man-Bat down the hall. Man-Bat overpowered them and he swung them around. One of the Talons crashed into Catwoman's glass window. She used the chaos to escape. She ran from one tunnel to another with the Talons in hot pursuit. Catwoman fled from a condemned Gotham City Public Works section with the Talons still chasing her. She snapped off some piping and knocked one off its feet. One Talon declared she would die if she was not returning with them. Catwoman retorted it wouldn't be the first time, threw the piping at a Talon, then dove off a waterfall.

Catwoman climbed out a manhole and jumped on an approaching patrol car's hood, trying to tell the police inside what happened to her. They were startled and she went flying backwards only to be grabbed by a Talon. Renee Montoya and Harvey Bullock searched for her in vain. She got free and hid under a gargoyle statue. One night later, Catwoman made it to Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's roof top greenhouse. Catwoman was worn out and fell through the ceiling. Ivy wondered why she came. They were surrounded by Talons, to Harley's chagrin. Batman and Robin coincidentally paid a visit and the Talons suddenly retreated. Selina Kyle regained consciousness and called out from the room. Batman asked her if she was all right then she kissed him. Batman carried her out. She thanked Harley and Ivy for having her back. Batman and Robin relocated her to a secret hideout at Tabby's Tavern, where she was reunited with her cats. She swore nobody knew about it then recounted what happened to her.

Batman asked her if there was anything else. She teased she was only thinking of a long, hot shower and implied he should join her. Robin pointed out he was in the room. Batman gave her a communication device that would send a signal directly to him if she got into any trouble. The Talons discovered her hideout but she escaped before they burst in and she followed them to an abandoned subway entrance. She left a message on Batman's comm line. Batman, Robin, and Talia met up with Catwoman on a roof top. Catwoman was surprised to see his "fan club" and rattled off Talia's file: adventuress, heiress, and one-time owner of such treasures as the La Peregrina pearl and the Bahia Emerald. Talia corrected her and stated the pearl and emerald were still secured inside her family's vault deep within the Swiss Alps. Catwoman teased they "were." Batman inquired what her intel was. She brought Batman up to speed and noted there were sentries and pointed out who she thought was the lead Talon that controlled the others.

They stormed the entrance. Catwoman inquired what Talia's stake was in it. She only wanted to expedite the end of this latest case so Batman could devote his time to more fulfilling endeavors. Catwoman thought that answer dripped with portent. Robin asked why the tunnel was so wet. Batman recalled the old tunnels were built too close to the Gotham riverbed and the river soaked through the walls, which forced the city to abandon the line. Catwoman recognized a mosaic and believed they were close to where she was held. The Talon stalked them but Batman detected him at the last second. Catwoman slashed at him but he countered with a kick. Talia swung her sword but it was knocked away. Robin came in with a jump kick. Batman grabbed the Talon's sword arm and twisted it then pinned him to a column. Batman demanded to know why the Court of Owls returned and why the Talons kidnapped Catwoman and Man-Bat. The Talon called them two insignificant menaces and teased the Owls' wingspan spreads far beyond Gotham. He noted their undying legions had expanded since they last fought. They were surrounded by zombie dogs. Talon ordered the dogs to kill them.

Batman threw a red Batarang into a wall near the dogs. It exploded and the Gotham River rushed in and swept the dogs away. Batman and Robin fired their grappling guns. Talia commended Batman but Catwoman scoffed at "Beloved." Robin pointed out any one of them could have rode up with him. They pressed on and came to a tunnel familiar to Catwoman. Batman guessed it was the one the Court brought her through. Talia and Catwoman started having words when the former reiterated there would soon be no hunger or petty thievery and she offered Batman the entire world. Catwoman quipped if the deal didn't include one of her back rubs, the deal was off. Several miles into the underground, the path changed into caves and trenches. They came upon a junction point with at least three tunnels but Catwoman had no idea which one to take. Talia discovered Kirk Langstron soon after. Batman could only count on making Langstrom more afraid of him than the Talons. He knew Langstrom was delirious from being on the run for days. Catwoman recognized her prison. Langstrom shushed her and pointed out there were two zombie Talons standing guard up ahead.

Batman and Robin quickly dispatched them but everyone was shocked to see they were guarding prison cells holding various Gotham criminals. Esther Valestra became irate at the sight of Batman. Penguin tried to calm her down and pointed out Catwoman was with him and they may have misconstrued the situation. Black Mask demanded their release. Batman realized Ra's al Ghul had most of the major criminals of Gotham taken prisoner in order to later convince him crime-fighting was no longer needed in the city. Ra's confirmed that was true and called it a ruse of the highest order. Talia was upset at being manipulated. Catwoman quipped her family got more interesting. Batman and Talia strongly objected to Ra's al Ghul's real plans and a fight broke out. Catwoman found a security room, killed a Talon, opened all the prison cells, and looted the armory. The criminals joined the battle. Some like March Hare and Mad Hatter stayed back since they were still powerless.

Catwoman threw down weapons. They caught guns and opened fire on the Talons. After the battle was over, Penguin milked the sympathy routine with reporters. Robin, Batman, and Catwoman observed the police and journalists from a nearby roof. Robin was disgusted by Penguin but Catwoman claimed it was a traumatic experience for everyone and it left permanent scars. Robin apologized. She accepted and kissed him on the cheek. She took off and mused Talia's talent for vanishing must be part of the attraction. Batman replied it was complicated. Catwoman invited him to hunt her up some night when he was on his own.
