The Pentagon is the official headquarters of the United States Department of Defense and is located in Arlington, Virginia. During the World War One and World War Two eras, the then Department of War was rapidly outgrowing its locations and construction chief, General Brehon Somervell was tasked with drafting a plan. Eventually, an agreement was made to situate a new base in Virginia near the Potomac River. Ground was broken on September 11, 1941. It has a pentagonal layout: five sides, five floors above ground, two basement levels, and five ring corridors per floor. The Pentagon was built by John McShain, Inc. and completed on January 15, 1943. On September 11, 2001, the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon and resulted in the deaths of 189 people.
Major Force invaded the Pentagon and forced his way to Tunnel 51, where he believed the prototype Quantum Vacuum was stored. Batman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and Captain Atom arrived to stop the villain. However, Captain Atom's battle with Force led them to the exact room where the Vacuum was located. Force donned the device and absorbed all of Atom's powers. Major Force failed to kill Captain Atom and left the Pentagon.
