Jonathan Crane created Fear Gas to gather field research into every known phobia. The gas is an organic compound that acts as a panic-inducing psychotropic hallucinogen. Victims who inhale the gas instantly begin to hallucinate and see their worst fears. Some time later, Batman devised an antidote for this. Recently, Crane, now Scarecrow, genetically modified the annual pumpkin patch with Fear Gas. When the pumpkins were carved into jack-o-lanterns and heated, the gas would be emitted. Batman and the Flash rounded up the pumpkins before the ill-effects transpired.
