Blue Beetle created a vehicle that emulated his namesake. The Bug was born. The Bug is a multi-purpose 80% solar powered beetle-shaped craft, capable of operating in air and water and built with a mobile lab, blasters, magnetic manipulators, grasping "claws" and defense shields. It was wrecked during a jail break on Hub Island Penitentiary initiated by the Madniks, transformed into Energy Monsters. With little time to waste, Blue Beetle activated a spare Bug to team with Batman and confront Jarvis Kord.
Two years after the death of its owner, the spare Bug was reactivated by the new Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes. Reyes scanned the travel log and thought Kord maybe stranded on Science Island. The Bug later turned out to be the mode of escape as the island was set off by a reactor overload. Blue Beetle continues to use the Bug on his missions. On one occassion, he used it for space travel to transport Evil Star to Oa for imprisonment.
