In 1936, Gregory Sanders lost all of his family to a combination of disease and murder. Sanders went on to become a famous radio identity called "the Prairie Troubadour." When he wasn't on the radio, Sanders donned the same cowboy costume as Vigilante to avenge his father's death. Vigilante served on the crime fighting group known as the Seven Soldiers of Victory, and along with his teammates were thrust back in time. Ironically, Vigilante wandered the Old West from 1895-1897 after which he was brought to the present where he remained a hero. Vigilante is a skilled street fighter and fights with a pair of pistols and a lariat.
Vigilante teamed up with Batman for a showdown in Gotham City at E. Weisinger and S. Meskin Street against several Gotham Crime Bosses. At Batman's behest, Vigilante remained out of the fight. Instead, he took to his guitar and belted out a ballad about Batman. Vigilante did take out a sniper with a gun hidden in his guitar.
