Tornado Champion was the son of Red Tornado. Over the course of several months, Red Tornado built him using his own fundamental design. Tornado also "upgraded" his son with an EM protocol that gave it emotion. The emotional integration didn't appear to work in the beginning. Undaunted, Tornado Champion worked alongside Tornado and Uncle Batman to face Major Disaster. The villain shot Champion from behind with a blast of electricity.
After the experience, he began to be overwhelmed by emotions. He saw the worst in humanity: fragility, cruelty, and fear. When Major Disaster tried to escape Iron Heights Penitentiary and knocked out Tornado, he exacted revenge and declared he was above morality and humanity is a disease. Alarmed by the software anomalies, Red Tornado activated Champion's fail switch device. However, Champion secretly removed the device and proceeded to upgrade itself for the coming war. Renaming himself Tornado Tyrant, he was eventually destroyed by Batman and Red Tornado.
