Jonathan Law was a crime novelist. While interviewing Dian Belmont, companion of Sandman, Law was inspired by her costume design of Sandman. He armed himself with gimmicks and his wits. Law could walk on walls with suction cups on the soles of his boots and shoot a fast hardening nylon from his "web gun." Law debuted as Tarantula, named after his pet spider.
