Pterodactyls, "winged lizard", were flying reptiles that lived between the late Triassic to the end of the Cretaceous Period (220 to 65.5 million years ago). Often mistaken as dinosaurs, pterodactyls differed by their skeletal design and are considered the earliest vertebrates that evolved powered flight. Physically, they have long and slender jaws filled with teeth, long tails, and wings that stretch out from their legs to a very long fourth finger. The most common member of the Pterodactyl family is Pteranodon.
In recent times, dinosaurs and pterodactyls survived on Dinosaur Island, a land mass that exists in a state of flux. The island became a secret base for Ultra-Humanite and Gorilla Grodd. Humanite implanted them with mind control receivers. Grodd domesticated several pterodactyls to use as aerial transportation.
When Equinox was reborn as a god, the space-time continuum began to swing violently between order and chaos. As a result, pterodactyls flew above Gotham City until Equinox rectified it.
