An ex-athlete resorted to a life of crime. As Sportsmaster, he used various motifs of sports as weapons such as exploding baseballs, rocket baseball bats, knockout basketballs, lacrosse snare nets, and exploding hockey pucks. Eventually, Sportsmaster got married to Tigress, another super villain. Together, they had a daughter and named her Artemis.
On one Christmas Eve, Sportsmaster interrupted the Professional Bowling League's Christmas Tournament and competed for the prize money in his own warped way. He fashioned the tournament competitors inside giant bowling pins. Batman and the Blue Beetle arrived and tripped up the Sportsmaster before he could act.
Sportsmaster escaped Blackgate Prison and returned to crime. His latest heist was ended by Red Tornado and Tornado Champion. He resided at Iron Heights but escaped and layed low for awhile. Around the same time Aquaman took his family on vacation, Sportsmaster did, too. They crossed paths somewhere in the eastern United States and soon peacefully parted ways.
