The Mutant Master is Ur, the leader of a group of three giant atomic mutants who planned to destroy the world as retribution for their tragic fate. They are telepathically linked to each other and have different powers. Ur has a giant eye for a head and fires a deadly heat wave. Ar has his face in his chest and can shoot a de-atomizer ray. Ir is a faceless mutant with a giant eye in the palms of his hands and fires lasers. They claimed to be aliens rather than human mutations transformed by atomic radiation. They were born near the first atomic experiments of 1945.
From the Swiss Alps, they used their combined power to pull Halley's Comet onto Earth. When the Doom Patrol intervened, Elastigirl was taken hostage. The Chief secretly posed as a giant gladiator from space and created an elaborate story where mutant giants are slaves on alien worlds. Horrified by this new knowledge, the Mutant Master decided to stop the Comet and flew straight into it.
Several years later, they resurfaced at the residence of Rita Farr-Dayton, formerly Elastigirl. She wanted nothing to do with them so they attacked her guests. The Chief and Batman arrived and jilted her into coming out of retirement. Elastigirl defeated the trio and knocked them off the residence. They later gathered with a group of the Doom Patrol's Rogues Gallery in a bid to show the world the heroes were nothing but frauds and cowards. Batman defeated Ir and the others with knockout gas. He was taken away by the authorities.
