Mr. Mxyzptlk is a imp from the fifth dimension. Mxyzptlk's powers appear as magic when used in the lower dimensions. After learning about Earth in the second dimension, he teleported to it and caused many practical jokes. Mxyzptlk encountered Superman and became an avid enemy and annoyance of the superhero. Luckily, Superman knew of his one weakness. If Mxyzptlk said his name backwards, "Klptzyxm," he would be banished to the fifth dimension for 90 days. He also happens to be fairly gullible and falls for Superman's ruses to say his name backwards.
Superman once told Batman about Mr. Mxyzptlk. Some time later, Batman was plagued by his own fifth dimensional imp, Bat-Mite. In recent times, Mxyzptlk returned to Earth and tormented the Daily Planet. He animated its rooftop globe and turned Jimmy Olsen into a rotund freak, human octopus, a jungle boy, a genie, a Wolf-Man, a Bizarro Boy, a Super-Brain, and human porcupine. He was thrilled to see both Superman and Batman present. Superman used a knock-knock joke to send Mxyzptlk back home.
