Detectives Furst and Young decided to recruit Beast Boy to help them deal with the tougher cases plaguing San Perez. They parked their Flowers By Ian van in a faraway parking lot. Once Beast Boy arrived, they briefed him about how crime had surged 5000 percent and they suspected the city's rat population. They wanted Beast Boy to go undercover and find out who was organizing them. Beast Boy was tasked with stealing a pizza slice from Lil' Annie's Pizza. The rat general claimed it was the best pizza in the city. If he pulled it off, he was in the gang. Beast Boy soon encountered Lil' Annie, the resident cat. Beast Boy sought advice from Detectives Furst and Young over comms. They advised him to stay still and the cat wouldn't detect his movement but then they questioned if that was for a shark. Beast Boy grabbed a pizza cutter and parried Lil' Annie's attacks. Annie sliced up some bags of flour nearby.
Beast Boy wanted to transform but Furst and Young advised him against since the rats were watching and it would blow his cover. Annie knocked the cutter away and pinned Beast Boy against a bag. He got an idea and tossed flour around to obscure the rats' view. He transformed into a dog and scared Annie away, transformed back into a rat, and exited with a slice. They went back into the sewers and feasted. However, as a rat, Beast Boy fell under the sway of the Rat Gang's boss, the Pied Piper. Furst and Young yelled at him all night in vain. During the San Perez Museum heist, Beast Boy was accidentally freed from hypnosis from microphone feedback created by Detectives Furst and Young over comms by mistake as they quarreled about telling Commissioner Wolfman or not about what they were doing. Beast Boy took on Piped Piper and the Rat Gang. One detective was confident in him, one not so much. After being smacked around, Beast Boy took possession of Piper's flute and used it to control the rats and capture him. Furst and Young were along the police on-site taking the criminals into custody. One of the rats squeaked in protest. They told him to save it for the judge.
Beast Boy was later summoned to their van again. They revealed Commissioner Wolfman had been held hostage for weeks by Kobra at their West Coast Regional Headquarters. Since everyone else was busy, they asked Beast Boy to rescue Wolfman. After learning Beast Boy was going by Lone Wolf because he was a doing a thing, some regret creeped in. They were unaware Wolfman escaped on his own.
