A stray puppy found a pizza box but it was empty. Catwoman came up with a plan to turn Gotham into a kitty-only city by luring all dogs to another city, Metropolis. Along with her cat Miss Kitka, they marched through the city throwing out dog treats. One stray puppy saw through her facade and barked at her. She threw a treat at his snout but he batted it away then charged. Kitka jumped off Catwoman but the puppy won the fight and Kitka landed in a dumpster. He then snatched the bag of treats away. Buff arrived and Catwoman took off. Buff congratulated the puppy for his bravery but couldn't leave him and three other strays in the streets with Catwoman on the loose. He sneaked them into the Batcave and tried to hide them in his garage space but he soon revealed them to the other Batwheels, Moe, and Batcomputer. They promised to keep them out of Batman's sight. The strays didn't want to get them in any trouble and returned to the city.
Catwoman and Kitka resumed their plan but used a steak as a lure instead of dog treats. The puppy tried to stop her but slipped up on kitty litter and landed on trash bags. He found a half-eaten fish as Buff arrived in search of them. They formed a plan and the puppy jumped on his hook. He jumped and swapped Catwoman's steak for the fish. All of the stray cats took notice and chased after Catwoman and Kitka. An adoption fair was held by the four puppies. Batgirl and Robin wanted to keep the lead puppy. Batman told them he was a big responsibility. They made a bat-promise to take care of all his needs. Batman agreed to adopt him, put a collar on him, and suggested naming him "Ace." Buff played fetch with Ace in the Batcave until Bam pointed out it wasn't the best place due to the size. They relocated to Gotham Stadium. Buff used his winch and tossed the ball super long. Ace noticed someone trying to steal the engine out of a parked car. It was Poison Ivy. Ivy revealed she was in the process of making a car bigger and better than the Batwheels.
Buff lost his Bat-Winch to Ivy. Buff believed he couldn't fight a supervillain without a winch but Bam taught him to improvise and make use of his surroundings. Ace brought him a branch that looked like a winch. At Gotham Amusement Mile, Buff got his lights blocked by sticky flowers. Ivy got away with a bumper car and tea cup. Ace improvised and brought him a string of lights. At a Cobblepot construction site, Buff lost his tires to Ivy. They tried to find something to substitute for the tires but nothing worked until Ace saw the giant donuts on the food trucks nearby. Ivy finished her car but it was destroyed. Ace wrapped her up in the string of lights. After all the stolen parts were returned, Bam and Buff returned to the stadium and played fetch with Ace using the wood winch. In an attempt to rescue Buff's stuffed unicorn from the Legion of Zoom, Ace was sent into Parkham Scrap Yard. He found the unicorn but he dropped it and grabbed a tennis ball instead.
Buff wanted to have Ace perform tricks on command for the talent show to decide who would get the Bat Dazzle Vehicle Paint. However, Ace was not responding. When it was joked who was taking commands from whom, Buff decided to flip the script and did the tricks instead. Robin entered Ace into the Gotham dog show after he and Batgirl saw a news report about it and spotted Harley Quinn and her hyena Giggles. Robin wanted to keep an eye on Harley but Batgirl wasn't so sure Ace was a show dog but more of an action dog. Ace admitted to Bam and Redbird that he didn't know what a dog show was. They helped teach him the three parts of a dog show: athletics, inspection, and tricks. In his first pass, Ace ignored the entire athletic course, kicked Moe the practice judge during inspection, and didn't wait for the frisbee to be thrown before he fetched it. During the dog show, Ace managed to cut off Giggles before the Best in Show trophy could be stolen. Harley ran out of patience and stole the trophy herself. Ace abandoned the third segment to gave chase and jumped from tent to tent. He leaped and knocked the trophy to Redbird. Even Harley was impressed. Ace was awarded best in show, having displayed comparable requirements during the chase.
On Christmas Eve, Ace happened to knock the Christmas tree over and block Batman, Batgirl, and Robin's vision right when Moe drove out of the Batcave in Santa's sleigh. Ace helped the Batwheels put the Spiffledip into its cage by using the orb that resembled its home planet. Ace lured it back in the cage and Bam closed it.
