The Phantom Zone Projector was an invention of the late Jor-El of the planet Krypton. It was used to imprison the worst criminal offenders in a region of interdimensional space known as the Phantom Zone. These criminals were changed into a noncorporeal molecular state. It later came into the possession of Superman and is kept in the Fortress of Solitude. When Superman concluded he was currently unable to cure Bar-El and Lilo of Kryptonite poisoning, they willingly allowed him to transport them to the Phantom Zone.
