The Ultrasphinx is a god-like figure from 80th century B.C. and was active during the First Dynasty of Atom-Hotep. After Samson and Atlas stole the Jewels of Atom-Hotep, Ultrasphinx pursued them across time. Samson and Atlas knew they couldn't defeat him and planned to trick Superman into helping them. In the 21st century, he caught up to them again and placed Lois Lane, who was wearing the stolen jewels, in a state of quantum uncertainty. Ultrasphinx then asked the Unanswerable Question, "What happens when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object?" If answered correctly, Lane would be spared. If answered incorrectly, she would die. Superman stepped forward and remembered the paradox from a future edition of the Daily Planet. Superman answered "Surrender." Ultrasphinx accepted, freed Lane, and took the Jewels with him.
