Asami Koizumi is a girl from Japan experimented on by the Reach. She was one of the teenagers rescued by the Team and sent to S.T.A.R. Labs for testing. Conversation with the other teenagers was limited as they didn't know Japanese and she didn't know much English. At least one of the S.T.A.R. scientists, Dr. Wilcox, conversed with her in Japanese. Koizumi was nicknamed "Sam" and she learned to activate her ability by clapping her hands together and focusing. Koizumi could gather and channel the flow of her inner energy then expel it to perform a variety of functions, such as propelling herself forward, cushioning a landing, pushing things away from her, and reversing energy flow to affect objects she is in contact with. Use of her power is evidenced by an air disturbance in the form of concentric circles that appear behind or in front of her and a slight glow around her person which could also provide protection from minor impacts.
On May 13th, Koizumi understood the gist of what Virgil Hawkins was planning and discovered an door unlocked by a staged power outage. However, the group returned to S.T.A.R. out of concern for the staff. One on one, Koizumi was no match for Red Volcano. When the group focused on evacuation, Koizumi brought Eduardo Dorado Senior and Dr. Wilcox outside to safety. While Blue Beetle was distracted by news crews, the group ran way again and met Lex Luthor.
By the end of May, Koizumi could speak some English. On May 29th, Luthor offered a mission to the group and gave Koizumi a Father Box. However, by the mission end, they realized there were played. Koizumi destroyed the Father Box and laptop given by Luthor. On June 20th, Koizumi helped neutralize the Magnetic Field Disrupters. She was placed into Theta Squad with Black Canary, given the A-19 designation, and disabled a Disrupter. After the mission, she retired from heroics and moved in with Tye Longshadow and his mother. Longshadow and Koizumi kinda had a thing.
